Cogeneration is an environmentally responsible solution to satisfying today’s energy demands, and is substantially more efficient than power generation by local utility companies. The local utility typically converts fuel to power at an efficiency rate of between 30 - 35%. Because Northstar projects are not subject to “transmission line loss,” and because Northstar is capturing the heat by-product of the electricity generation process, Northstar typically operates at about 85% efficiency. This fact translates into a 35% - 50% reduction in the carbon footprint (reduction in carbon dioxide emissions) for a Northstar installation.

In one instance, the reduction in the carbon footprint equates to the elimination of 580 automobiles from the road.
